Hi everyone,
I'm new to home brewing and just completed two 1-gallon extract batches. I wanted to get a feel for the brew process. I'm now ready to brew a 5-gallon batch of a simple, Sierra Nevada-like pale ale. There is a recipe in How to Brew that calls for:
6.6 lbs pale LME
0.5 lb crystal 60
0.5 oz Northern Brewer for 60 mins
0.5 oz Cascade for 30 mins
1.0 oz Cascade for 15 mins
WLP001 yeast.

The recipe seems light in the hop area. Does anyone have any advice or recommendations or substitutions for the hops?
Thank you!

That definitely looks light...

BierMuncher has a recipe for a SNPA clone. Here is the hop schedule that he listed for 5 gal.

1 Oz Pearl - 60 minutes
.5 Oz Cascade - 15 minutes
.5 Oz Cascade - 10 minutes
.5 Oz Cascade - 5 minutes

I'd like to brew a partial mash version of SNPA sometime. That one & Dale's pale ale from Oskar Blues are my favs.

Thanks for the info. From what I've read on various from various posts, Magnum seems like a good bittering hop for 60 minutes. I thought I'd follow that up with Perle for 30 and Cascade at 10 and at the end of the boil. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I've made a good snpa replica in the past with Columbus for bittering and then cascades. But cascade by itself should be fine w/ that schedule
