I started fermenting this batch on Monday, today is Wednesday. I sampled some today and I think it tastes great and I can tell there is alcohol in it. I am too lazy to go to the store. I think I am going to pour myself a 6 pack and just drink it. It's really not bad. I had this kinda thing before where I drink the whole almost all the beer by like day 9, which is how long I usually ferment. Mind you my main goal in brewing is to cut the costs down. So today I drink some flat but flavorful beer and save myself 8 bucks. My beer is simple 6 lb Bavarian Wheat Liquid Malt Extract, 1oz Saaz Hop Pellets, yeast Brettanomyces bruxellensis Trois Vrai (WLP648)(It appeared to be dead after 3 days so I added another package of dry yeast. All I am trying to achieve at this point is reducing costs. I am a heavy drinker I drink 6 tall boys every day. Thinking about investing in a keg, and the first step for me is cutting down the cost not making better beer. It actually tastes better flat than the cheap carling I usually drink. Any thoughts advice? This is my 7-8th batch in my lifetime.

You've had it in the fermenter for 2-3 days and you're drinking it already!? Man, turn the light off and let it sit for at least 2 weeks before playing with it. If you love beer, just let it go. Make another one in the meantime or something.

If your purpose is to get drunk as cheaply as possible, add a few pounds of sugar to up the alcohol content. You'll pass out well before 6 tallboys. Most commercial beer weighs in at about 5% alcohol by volume (ABV) with the right yeast, you can easily push that to 10-12%.

It might have been fermenting longer. I pitched in the original yeast on Friday.
It might have been fermenting for like 5 days. Feels like the alcohol content is about 4-5%. I know you say let it sit. I just can't tell any difference when it sits, I've actually had experiences where it tastes worse. I am also really unimpressed with how it gets carbonated in these bottles, it still tastes half flat. It doesn't taste like commercial soda like carbonated beer. The bottles leak and stuff. I think without a keg and a reliable carbonating process it just not the same. I also absolutely hate beer that has over 5% alcohol I think it ruins the taste complacently. In my culture they have a beverage called "KVAS". Google it it is a Russian beverage. What I am tasting right now tastes like kvas with maybe 4% alcohol. I am not trying to get drunker by making it cheaper, I have enough money to get absolutely hammered every day. 6 tallboys is more than I like to drink in a day I am an easy drunk and I don't really like to get drunk all I want is a light buzz. It really doesn't turn out all that great in these plastic leaky dirty bottles, I almost think this stuff is healthier. It's kvas if I could carbonate it now I would. I like light beer or kvas.

Why waste money on fancy yeast like WLP64, bread yeast will work just fine.

For that matter, why waste money on hops? A few pounds of sugar and some bread yeast and your way to cheap drunk heaven. ;-)

I drank 3 bottles in the morning and felt fine, but later that day I got diarrhea. Anybody know why that happens with home brew? So today I fixed the ebike I bought for $180 it needed batteries $202 and I bought a soldering gun to install the batteries $50 but it is an amazing e-bike and I am celebrating. Now I am in a predicament. I went to the beer store and only bought 4 tallboys and I am in a preatty good mood. The diarrhea is all done with, and there is 3 more of my home brew. I know I am going to drink at least one more. My experience with home brewing has been a dirty one, I don't usually have enough money for the proper equipment and I just drink it if it's any good. I need to buy a keg and all the carbonating stuff and a mash tun and another pail if I hope to give it even a week to ferment. I realistically need to produce 4-5 5 gallon batches to cover my habit. I can keep drinking the store stuff, I have enough money. Here is some math 90 liters of carling costs me 4 dollars a tiller and works out to be 360 dollars a month. If I can buy all the equipment and learn from all the mistakes I can reduce that to maybe $160 and it is a worthy investment. I do have money at the time to invest, I sold my car. i think I need at least 2 pails and 2 kegs and a 20lb pund thing of co2, and all the regulator stuff, maybe a mash tun. The volume has to be around 4-5 5 gallon kegs a month. I know I drink a lot, but still very little compared to most other bums I know. Zas it I need a drink I am celebrating fixing my lovely ebike, it could have been dead and it works!!

Just curious, are you looking for brewing advice or affirmation of your drinking habit?

This whole thread is obviously one of the HBT regulars having a laugh...I am sure the moderators can trace the IP and match it up. The question is, which one of the regulars is having some fun....unless it is a moderator.....
