Just do it!
no really, I sat around for a year "researching" and finally I just pulled the pin on my equipment and made myself actually brew instead of just talking about it. I only have two brews under my belt so I am fairly new to the game as well.
I bought the basic kit from Northern Brewer, and then had to kind of customize it to my needs since I have a converted sankey keg and do 10 gallon batches. I looked around at all the big online suppliers and even at my local home brew shop, but local prices were higher. I decided on Northern Brewer because they had the extract kit i wanted to start with. I have done both the Caribou Slobber kit and the American Amber and they both were fairly simple to brew. It basically comes down to personal preference on what kind of beer you want to brew.
The only other advise I have is to see if there are any local brew clubs in your area. I had a who I could ask some questions to, but talking with the members really helped me after my first brew. Most will be glad to give any advice you need.
