Hello! I am new to fermenting and making mead. This is my second time. I just set these up yesterday and I noticed today there is a thick layer on the top. I don't see this in my other one. I put both together at the same time. This also didn't happen with my last Mead. I'm curious if this is something I should be alarmed about? Or leave it be. If I do leave it be, how do I add yeast nutrients since it looks like whatever I put in would just sit at the top and not go into solution.

I don't think you have a problem. Looks to me like you have some stratification due to honey and water not mixed well enough. You want to be degassing at this stage so I'd suggest mixing your nutrients in a little water then add it and stir the heck out of it. Good luck!

It looks like the water and honey are not well mixed... but I see nothing that looks like it is off. The yeast will get to that honey even if it was all settled on the bottom.
