First time kegger here. I've got a new to me system.

I'm wondering, if I take an empty keg and run the pressure to 20 PSI, turn the gas off and monitor the pressure gauge on the regulator for 24 hours, assuming it doesn't drop in pressure, can I then assume I'm good to go? If I get any kind of drop in pressure, then I can assume I have a leak?

I've read about the soapy water and star san method, but I'm just trying to determine if a leak is present before I start into that.

Thanks for the help!

Using soapy water is a lot faster. Pressurize the keg, spray all the potential leaking places with soapy water, and watch for bubbles. It's a five minute exercise instead of 24 hours.

Thanks guys.

I hooked it up at noon, applied 22lbs. At 5pm it dropped to 20lbs on the regulator. Hit the corny with soapy water and found a leaky pressure release valve. Disassembled, cleaned, reassembled, applied lube. applied soapy water, submerged. Not leaking right now. Hopefully, I fixed it.

Thanks, for your help!
