New study disproving autism link with vaccines

I'm not sure how many people here are interested with this info but here is yet another study that shows to disprove the myth that vaccines (especially those that contain thimersol) leads to a higher rate of autism.

Last I heard of this was a federal judge telling the plaintiffs to get the h*ll out of the courtroom and not come back till they had actual evidence.

I know the guy who started the whole vaccines = autism scare had a rather checkered past as a "medical researcher". He was know to have done things like base studies on blood samples that he paid kids $5 for at his son's birthday party. Autism also wasn't the first medical condition he tried to link to vaccines, either.. I forgot what the other one was, but the upshot was that it didn't make parents angry and scared, so it never "caught on".

Speaking of which... wouldn't a few ppb of mercury in the drinking water offset all the damage done by vaccines? Maybe we should get the EPS to stop being such corporate whores to drug companies and give us the tainted water we deserve.

The original article that started the whole vaccine/autism questionable link was published in 1998. It was later revealed that the main author had a very biased selection of which patients to include in the study, paid children at his son's birthday party to have blood drawn for research purposes, and he also accepted money to act as an expert witness in an MMR court case, misled authorities about the payment. All of this let to him being barred from practicing medicine in Great Britain .

I don't know about mercury in the water, but if you (or your child) ever had a can of tuna then that is about the same amount of mercury as in a shot of the flu vaccine which still contains a small amount of thimersol.

So I just watched the penn and teller vaccine episode on youtube. It was quite engaging, on both sides. I say, if they parent is dumb enough to be fooled, let them choose not to vaccinate their kid. The world is soon going to be overpopulated, and most of that is going to be backwoods idiots who fall for BS propaganda like that...so the less the better I say.

On a somewhat related note, I remember in the thread in this section about music you should like but dont (or something like that) someone made a fuss about a split second nip shot getting through to youtube... theres a solid 5-10 seconds of ****ies at the end of that episode right there on youtube at 10:10

I did see it. I like the show, and I agreed with them on this one, correlation isn't causation.

"Herd Immunity" is the phenomenon wherein even though vaccinations are not (and can never be) 100% effective, the fact is that if enough members of a "herd" (human society in this case) get immunized, the effective rate goes up drastically, since the rate of incidence goes down across the board as more and more immunizations take place. I'm sure there is some complicated variable-rate math that goes along with that, but that's the gist.

I hate this issue too... surprising thing is that all the anti-vaccs I know are well-educated, professional types. This is not a mental disease limited to backwoods homeschoolers. It's so stupid to give this ANY credence if they'd actually just look into the resumes of the people shoveling this crap...

Ahh ok, thanks for the explanation. Honestly I just heard of this recently and I'm not gonna lie, I told myself years ago I wouldnt have my kid(if/when I have one) vaccinated. Now let me back up a bit before everyone jumps my case, I don't necessarily still feel that way, for one. For two, I would get them all of the big ones, like polio, smallpox, hep and all that. But I dont really like flu shots, with all of this modern medicine peoples' immune systems are getting weaker and more dependant on the medicine we give them. But, with that, I am only talking about the minor things like common cold and 'tummy aches'. These, IMO, do not really need to be drowned out by every product on the shelf because it may end up do more harm than good. Think of the sheltered child who grows up in a hypoallergenic home where everything is purified and he/she isn't allowed to play in the dirt. Let them loose at 18 and BAM in and out of the hospital for the most minor bugs because their immune system hasn't developed hardly at all.

There have been tons of studies that have disproved that. Not to mention that the guy that originally did the study supporting the correlation was barred from practicing medicine in his native UK due to unethical practices. We're having a bit of a "whooping cough" epidemic in the Bay Area in grade schools because parents didn't vaccinate. Now if you're not vaccinated you have to get it and stay home for 3 weeks! My two wee pints are all up to date with their vaccines and will stay that way! [/2¢]

We just had a boy in April. I did so much research on this topic. Our son has had all of his vaccinations and is healthy and happy as can be.
