I'm brewing my fourth batch of Kombucha and am concerned that the new scoby looks really different from the last few new babies that formed. The mother looks healthy and is laying on the bottom. It doesn't look like mold really, but it's dark in several areas and there was an air bubble on top this morning. Photo is attached. The brew smells and tastes normal.

Any thoughts or ideas from more experienced brewers?

Many thanks!!

Looks pretty normal to me. My newly formed SCOBY has some brown on it to. Black, green/blue hues are the ones to look out for (mold).

Looks fine.

Smell and taste are usually your best indicators if something's amiss. Unless you see mold (fuzzy growth), then whatever weird thing your SCOBY's doing is probably okay.

Looks fine to me. The darker parts are probably due to yeast. Mold would be on top of the SCOBY and it would be fuzzy.
