I just got a new plastic bucket and am brewing a batch right now. Well I just went to mix star san and noticed there is a deep scratch on this brand new bucket. Since it hasnt been used yet, do you guys think I would be ok using it this one time then tossing it after? Should I RDWHAHB or could this ruin my batch? Thanks

I would use it, rubbing the Starsan well into that scratch with a small washcloth or sponge. You could contact the place you bought it and see if you can get a replacement. I have buckets with small scratches and never had an infection in them.

Use it, if really really worried then you can give it a doubly whammy of boiling water on the scratch followed by starsan for good measure.

Is the scratch a ring around the inside, part way down? Buckets are usually shipped stacked, and sometimes the bottom rim of one bucket will wear a scratch line inside the next one.

Soak in Starsan, should be OK.

You'll likely be safe using it after cleaning/sanitizing, and afterwards, buy another new unscratched one and use this one as a bucket for whatever....storing dry brewing utensils/supplies, use it for washing your car, whatever.....extra buckets are always good to have, there's always a use, even if a scratch preculdes you from fermenting in it
