Hey. I've been lurking here for months and figured I would jump in. After years of visting breweries across the US and being immersed in craft brew culture I finally had the nerve to do it. Starting with a True Brew 5 Gallon kit, minus a secondary fermemter.

First brew was a Munton's Pre-Hopped IPA Extract Kit. Kicked it off in December with a successful brew/fermentation/bottling. Now at the 3 week point for bottle conditioning. Sampled a bottle yesterday and I'm very happy with the results. Following directions and taking it easy seemed to help everything go along well.

I will be diving into another extract brew project next weekend with the addition of specialty malts and hops. Baby steps work for me right now before I get into mad-scientist mode. I'll get there for sure... just not yet:)

Anyway, wondering if anybody else is surprised by the volume of hit-and-run posts in the beginner forum by desperate first time brewers looking for answers mid-brew... but then they often do not revisit their post to give an update on what happened.

Welcome! I think that I have a little more of the mad scientist in me. My first batch was an extract kit with specialty grains. Number two was an extract recipe with speciality grains that I found here on ths site. I've all but decided that number three will be my first shot at partial mash.

Not to imply that you are wrong, of course - I'll probably make more mistakes than you do. ;)

As for the hit and run posts... psh, that's just like everything else on the internet. It doesn't surprise me at all. I do wonder how many of those screw things up and decide to never brew again?

Ah, well... they make make some good deals for others on craigslist when they sell their gear, I guess.

good point. i am sure there are a few.

thanks for the advice. i'll make sure to hit you up with some questions if i get stuck in my next brew.

lol, blind leading the blind, sir. I'm exactly one batch ahead of you in terms of experience. ;) That being said, I'm happy to offer whatever advice I can. And hey, I have some great Google-fu. That counts for something, right?
