Hi everyone George here! New member on a quest to learn the art of making lovely cider and not pond water. Thanks
Thank you. No im learning that myself, to be honest, even getting the juice from grinding and pressing was qoute the undertaking! Ive tried carbonating with priming sugar do we shall see! Nice to theres another way if that fails, my dad makes wine yearly so the pressure is on to compete with his pretty decent wineWelcome! I've been making Cider for a few months now, and I'm still not happy with it, it's not as easy as it looks to get a Cider you actually crave drinking. The addition of pear has got me a lot closer though. Don't get me wrong, I'm drinking it, I'm just not craving it. Hard Seltzer though, that I'm counting off the days 'til another batch is ready!
Oh, and you can most definitely carbonate Cider with a Sodastream, it just has to be very cold and you have to be patient, gas up a second before you finish the first. It's a good way to test additions like tea, sweeteners or acids before bottling.
Welcome to the forum from a Texas Brewer. Good luck on your cider. Thanks! From a small village in england.

I've been using supermarket juice, but adding apple puree and tinned sliced apples. I did make a couple with 'fresh' apple juice, still from the supermarket, but unpasteurised whole juice with no additives, not from concentrate, and I didn't notice much difference at all. Actually pressing the juice yourself might make a big difference, I don't know. I'm following the recipes, using the same ingredients, but I'm not liking the results as much as others seem to. Then again, my daughter pointed out that there are some people out there that like Goon too! Goon = Cheap White Wine.Thank you. I always wanted to make cider and planted some apple trees but they aren't big/old enough to yield yet. I'm too cheap to buy apples or juice to do it.I've been using supermarket juice, but adding apple puree and tinned sliced apples. Yeah i bet you probably get a bit more sweetness that way with puree? We recently moved and there are two established apple trees in the garden, my better half said we could make some nice apple crumbles but I had other ideasI've been using supermarket juice, but adding apple puree and tinned sliced apples.
