Hi everyone

I am new to home brewing and I have one batch in the bottles and another in the primary bucket at the moment. It's been approximately 30 hours and I see no visible signs of bubbling in my bucket. I ready the sticky note about how quick fermentation is a sign of good brewing practices. I was pretty sure to keep things as sanitary as possible. One thing I realized with the yeast (I used wyeast liquid) was that I didn't give it a full 3 hours for the pack to totally swell up after "smacking" it. Based on the sticky thread I am confident that my wort will start to ferment but I wanted to pose the question to the group: is it best to wait until the smack packs totally swell up before pitching the yeast? If so, could my prematurely pitching the yeast contribute to the apparent noticeable delay in fermentation?

No fear. It states fully on the package that it doesn't need to swell all the way. As long as you saw some swelling you know the yeast are viable and will do their job. In general though, try to smack it three hours or so before.

Great, thanks for the guidance. My wort started bubbling gently about once every 40 seconds. I expect that to pick up some in the next day or two.
