i've got an irish ale in the primary ready to be racked to a secondary or to a keg for conditioning , what are the pros and cons of using either method, if conditioning in a keg,how long do i wait to carbonate.

You might not get anyone answering your question with the thread title "new Guy" it may get passed over...You can go back and edit it and maybe change the thread title to "new guy, keg as secondary question." or something....

Or you can use the search maybe for "keg as secondary", I'm not a kegger, but I believe there's been a lot of discussions on the topic...I think several people skip the secondary and go straight to keg as the bright tank...

If you don't get many fishers here, I would search for the topic...Since this is the weekend many people are brewing or stuff and not necessarily online...I've found that weekends during the day are the worst for getting specific questions answered....the threads sort of drop off the first page into obscurity...

Just rack to a keg. Let it condition in there. Your first pint or so may be yeast filled but after that you will have clear sailing as long as you dont move your keg around alot.
 
For the most part, I skip secondary and keg directly from primary. If it's a beer that is going into secondary, chances are it's a big one and going to be bottled.

Think of your keg as a giant bottle, and follow the same set of rules for conditioning. There isn't really a set time for it to be in the keg before carbonating. If you went three week primary and into the keg, it'll still be green just like in bottling. You'd want to give that another three weeks or so and then carbonate. On the other hand, if it's been sitting in primary for six weeks and then into the keg, you could probably carb it up right away. Give it a taste when transferring and let the taste of the beer be your guide.
 
it's been in the primary for almost 2 weeks,i'll take a few gravity readings then go to keg for a week or two,then carbonate,beer style is an irish red ale with an og of 1043 thanks guys
