Hi everybody.

I'm a 8 year homebrewer from Nothwest Detroit. My wife and I are in the process of starting a mead company called B. Nektar.

We're having all sorts of fun tweaking our recipes and brushing up on all the legal aspects of starting a small winery.

I am a member of the F.O.R.D. (Fermental Order of Renaissance Draughtsmen) brewclub.

Welcome to the forum. B. Nektar is a great name for a mead company.

I've actually never had any mead. I'd love to try some, but neither of the couple of liquor stores I've asked about it at had any. I'd like to try my hand at brewing some mead, but I'd like to at least taste some first.

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on the new business.

Our own Brewpastor ran a brewery for a while and enlightened us with his experiences. Check out https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=11412 if you are interested.

We have a lot of Michiganians signing up lately, it's about time we get some representatives from the "mitten", what with all the cheeseheads we have running around here.:D

Thanks! I can't take any of the credit. My wife came up with it. :)

Once we get all the licensing finished we'll be selling bottles online to any state that allows direct shipping.

Here's an update on the meadery a little over 3 years later.

B. Nektar is up and running. We opened our doors on August 1st, 2008 (Mead Day) to a crowd of about 300 people. We totally underestimated the demand for mead and the support we'd get from the community. We sold out of our original 30 gallon batches in about 6 weeks.

Since then, we've bought more and bigger tanks, tweaked our recipes, and expanded our distribution to the entire state of Michigan, Maine, Massachusetts, North Carolina, New Jersey, Maryland, and Washington DC.

Thanks to everyone that's supported us on our crazy adventure. We're meeting the greatest people and having a great time.

Welcome bnektar.
I had the pleasure of trying the Tupelo mead. Outstanding. When I find the time, I am going to come up on a Friday. Good luck on your venture.

Welcome!!

I seen your story on Fox 2 and I thought your setup is very cool!
I would love to make one of your tasting but I work Friday nights.:(

Congrats on your growing business!!

I first tasted your meads last year at the Beer festival in Ludington (Suds on the Shore). Outstanding! The vanilla one was a bit too sweet/vanilla-y for me, but there was another that was just fantastic, as was the "original recipe".

Beer is more my thing, but I've got to try your mead again at another beer festival and it never fails to disappoint. And it also makes me kind of silly.

I highly recommend anyone interested in mead to try their wares. Good stuff!
