Greetings all, Im Dopeybrew. I am getting my first kit for xmas from the wife. Its a 1 gallon "mini monster" kit. Hopefully I am getting a good kit.
I guess a little about me,
I have never brewed anything prior to this kit(that I have yet to get my hands on).
I am a Dark Beer fanatic.
At one point in life I had a goal to drink one of every brand of beer in the world, I gave this up after realizing that after 700 different brands of beer I had not even scratched the surface.
My current favorite beer is McEwan's Scotch Ale. I am hoping to eventually get to the point where I can brew something along the same lines flavor wise so I can get my beer no matter wherever I live(I can't find it here in Memphis).

I'm sure I will annoy everyone with the sheer amounts of questions I have regarding brewing. I would like to apologize now for that.

Welcome! I too started a little over a year ago with a one gallon kit - a chocolate maple porter. Then a one gallon "refill", then I jumped all in. Now I have a 14 gallon stainless conical, 20 gallon Stout kettle, a 20 gallon Stout mash tun, a 15 gallon hot liquor tank, two stainless march pumps, 16 corny kegs, a chest keezer, an upright freezer that I use as a fermentation chamber and occasional serving keezer - and a lovely wife who tolerates my obsessive hobby. Oh, and we're making wine and hard cider, too.

I'm sure you'll find a recipe that will be something close to your favorite scotch ale, and you'll find that you can make some awesome porters and stouts - or other dark beers. You've stopped into the right place here at Homebrewtalk - there are a lot of experienced brewers that are willing to share - I learn a lot from them.

Best of luck to you!

Good god that is a lot of equipment. I don't even know what half of that stuff is….
