Converting a 5 gal recipe to a 1 gal recipe. Can this be done as simply as dividing by 5, or is it more complex than that.
 
It's just that easy, I just switched over to one gallon from five just because I live in a place that is too small for all the beer I've brewed. But once you find one you love, you'll want to upgrade
 
Ya some of the recipes don't say how much yeast. So how would you figure out how much to add?
 
Packaged yeast is designed for 5 gallons. If you use liquid, just pitch the whole vial/pack and dont try to save it. If you use dry yeast you can pitch a 1/5 and save the rest if you are careful to guard against infection ( sanitize the pack before opening and put the open pack in a sanitized, air-tight container in the fridge). I pitch entire packages all the time and never had a problem with off-flavors.
