Hi, everyone. I'm a new brewer and new member. I've lurked for about a month and signed up a week ago I think. I've been wanting to brew for about 15 years so I'm finally giving it a try. Finding a brewshop about 2 hrs from my house helped. I have my first batch of beer that's been sitting for the past week. It's a pale ale made with specialty grains and malt extract.
The father of one of my son's friends turned out to be a long time brewer. I tried his homemade cider and he went through a cider making session with me and it helped push me over the edge to going for it. We just bottled our cider last week (apple juice, cane sugar, steeped hibiscus leaves, and champagne yeast) and it came out really good a little over 10%abv.
Yesterday I purchased an extra carboy to get my own cider batch going alongside the beer. I'm planning on going by Ed Wort's Apfelwine recipe I found on this site, and it already brings up a question or two. I'll go find the right forum to ask it in a few mins.
