New Brewer from Indiana

Hey everyone, I'm relatively new to the home brewing process and wanted to get into some conversations with people who share this passion.

I've done a few batches of extract brewing in order to get the hang of things but want to start doing my own mashing. I was wondering if anyone had tips for a first time masher or any recommendations for a good style to try.

I've spent some time looking through threads and this has already become one of my favorite websites, haha. Good to meet all of you!

Welcome to HBT -- I am fairly new to the site and brewing also. I also started with a Mr. Beer and did one batch was totally hooked and went directly to all grain. My first all grain was a Spiced Dark Lager... it is in secondary now...
Lots of story behind it. I recommend you get the Book How to Brew by John J. Palmer. Will be brewing an IPA Sunday.

1st all grain I should have done was a Pale Ale... pretty simple recipe and mash schedule and fairly fast to bottle and drinking. That way you can know how your process is and make adjustments.

Welcome! I was born and raised in Anderson and lived in Carmel for a couple of years. If you are just looking to get your feet wet in AG and not spend a ton of money yet, here is a great method: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f39/easy-stovetop-all-grain-brewing-pics-90132/

I did a couple using this method on a small scale to help learn the general idea. Then I built a mash tun from a water cooler. Probably best to start with a simple American Pale Ale.

Thanks for the friendly welcome! I do have, and have read, the Palmer book which was definitely helpful. I'll look into some of these recipes and when things get going I'll be sure to post on the progress.
