As the thread title says, this is my hopeful new brew recipe for this weekend. I have made several batches and think that I have the process under control. My usual general process is to find a good looking recipe, make it and then tweak it to my likin' on the second brew. Well I have grown tired of the IPA that I have been brewing and am in search for some new meat. I found this recipe on-line and would love y'all opinion of it. Especially what I could do to make it a more Hop forward, citrusy, grapefruity brew that might be similar to HopSlam (as far as Hop flavors/aromas)

West Coast IPA

2# American 2-row
4 oz. Wheat malt
8 oz. Crystal 40L
4 oz. Cara-Pils
Seeped for 60 minutes @ 155º

Top off brew pot to 5.5 gallons and add
6# LME
3# DME

Hop schedule:

1 oz. Magnum (12% AA) @ 60 minutes
1 oz. Magnum @ 45 minutes
2 oz. Cascade (5.5% AA) @ 30 min.
2 oz. Amarillo (7.5% AA) @ 30 min.
2 oz. Cascade @ 15 minutes
2 oz. Cascade @ FO

Yeast - recommended is Wyeast 1056, I am partial to Wyeast 1272 and will probably go that route

OG 1.080 FG 1.016 87 IBU

I am concerned that the initial bittering additions might be too much, based on the malt levels. Also I am surprised that there are not any dry-hoppings. Will the high level of late hop additions give the flavor of a good DH, or should I throw some in later?
This is an expensive brew with 10 oz. hops and over 10# malt/grain. It sounds like it is right up my alley but I would hate to spend this much and have a unbalanced brew or one that doesn't have the hop flavor I am looking for.

Any opinions are gratefully welcomed, as is any recipes along this line that a true tested winners.

TIA,
Dave:)

Just using the hops you have listed I would probably do a hop schedule more like this:
1 oz. Magnum (12% AA) @ 60 minutes
1 oz. Cascade (5.5% AA) @ 30 min.
1 oz. Cascade @ 15 minutes
1 oz. Amarillo (7.5% AA) @ 15 minutes
1 oz. Cascade @ FO
1 oz. Amarillo @ FO
2 oz. Cascade Dry hop

It's less bitter more hop forward. From my experience the Cascade and Amarillo blend well together late in the boil. IMO an IPA or IIPA has to be dry hopped to get a good fresh hoppy aroma.

Thanks Clonefarmer, I like your tweaks. I agree it will be better with more hops at the end, late boil and FO, added to with the DH'ing. I think that this might be the way to go.
Thanks for taking the time to help me.

Dave:)

It's in the carboy now. I was tickled to find that Cascade have come down in price. So Clonefarmer's recommendation of the Cascade in the hop schedule saved me some money. The brew smells awesome. I hit my target gravity and final boil volume spot on. And to make it all better my LP tank died with 3 seconds left in my boil. My last hop additions were really at flame-out.

Let us know how it comes out.

It's handy having a spare tank. One of mine died while heating the strike water today.
