So I got a new brew kettle from Austin home brew. It seems to have some type of oil or dust on it. Is there a way to clean this quickly? I may use it to brew tonight. If not I can use my aluminum pot that I have had been using. Any quick insight would be great? Do I just boil some water in it or use oxyclean? or anything else?

Thanks for all you do!
Doug

i would hit it with dish soap, rinse with hot water then brew. some people don't want dish soap near their kettle for fear of ruining their beer foam but the chances of that are remote if they exist at all.

I agree - I'd use a little dish soap to remove the oil, then rinse thoroughly.

When I got my new blichman, I did an oxyclean wash, then boiled plain water in it. Of course, I was also cleaning and boiling in a new immersion chiller, so it made sense to me. When everything had been boiled free of oil, I washed it again with plain water, rinsed with star san, and brewed a batch of beer. It is a brown ale currently at 10 days in primary!
