New Brew from Wisconsin

Love all of the information, threads and recipes on this site. I am a new member from Kenosha, WI, and will definitely be joining as a full timer in the very new future. I've always wanted to brew, since I love to cook, bake, can, garden, and do everything else.

I was a bartender for 9 years and love craft beer and good micro brews. I'm a Bells, 3 Floyds, New Glarus, and Left Hand drinker.

IPA in the primary
and my 1st batch ever was an APA extract kit that I just got for Christmas this past year

Since the 1st batch (an APA extract kit) 3 weeks ago, I've spent over $100 on a nice 6 gal carboy, and bunch of equipment & ingredients. I can see this is going to be a new obsession. That said, I'm ready to try an oatmeal stout and I need to invest in a bottle capping device very soon!

Welcome! I can identify with the obsession... and I love me some Bells, myself.

Bottle cappers are not bad at all; you can get a wing version for less than around $15, and a bench version for about twice that.

Thanks for the info. have you used the basic wing version? I used to help a friend bottle and I used the stand up bench type, which made capping a breeze. Just wondering if the cheaper on is a pain and if I should spend the extra $20, since I will probably be doing this for quite some time.

To be honest - I have yet to cap a batch. Still waiting on them to mature a bit.

I have a wing capper, but expect to move up to a bench capper at some point. I read that they are a good deal easier to use.

Get yourself a Red Barron capper. I hardly ever bottle anything anymore (unless I bottle off keg) but this trusty capper has done it all. Best wing capper out there and with this, there is no need for a bench capper.

Yup, def saw that one at NB in West Allis when I was there. headed up there tmrw for more supplies and ingredients.
