I would like to try to brew some beer, where do I start what kind of gear do I need.i just wanna make small amounts like a 6 pack at a time, seems like a cool hobby.friends of mine own a brew supply store so I can get stuff from them

If your friend owns a brew supply store I'd say ask him to get you set up.

Sent from my VS980 4G using Home Brew mobile app

Start with the bible:
http://www.howtobrew.com/

That'll give you pretty good idea of what you need.

Basically, a large pot to brew in, a Food-grade bucket or other vessel to ferment in, and some bottles for the final product.

A lot of folks get into brewing via a Mr. Beer kit. But if your friends own a LHBS (local homebrew store) you can get ingredients and recipes from them.

Read the book first, though.

They have owned the store for about a year.there kinda newbies.
I need wisdom from u guys.

Lots of recipes on this site. Lots of 1 gallon brewers too.

My own opinion is that it takes about the same effort to brew a small batch as a larger one, so why not make more.

Most recipes you'll see are for 5 or 10 gal batches. Fairly straightforward to scale a recipe down proportionally.

You can buy recipe kits from the major online brew stores. Get yourself a basic extract kit and follow the directions. You'll make beer. Once you're hooked on the hobby you'll be pouring over this site trying to learn how to make better beer.

But again, first read the book.

i agree with the book first "how to brew" walks you through brewing step by step and identifies the equipment you need and how to use it

Do not get a Mr. Beer kit! I'll tell you why.... Because most recipes are either 1gallon or 5 gallon recipes and Mr. Beer is like 2 or 2 1/2. And because a REAL home brew equipment kit is only about $10 bucks more anyway. Agreed that it takes about the same amount of effort and time to do 1 gallon or 5. Each has advantages. With small batch you don't have as much money tied up in a batch your not sure you will like but...... On the other hand if you know you'll like it why not make 5 gallons for the same effort as 1?

Btw 1 gallon batch =12 pack

Go check out some of the earlier videos at Basic Brewing (http://www.basicbrewing.com/index.php?page=video). They do one gallon 6-pack brews. Entertaining and informative. Both the video and audio podcasts are outstanding resources.

They also do some videos on using a Mr. Beer kit, and how you might take Mr. Beer to the next level with some more advanced techniques.

Have fun!!!!

Have a good look at some YouTube videos too.

I might get pelters for saying this but the videos by CraigTube really helped me get started.

There's nothing wrong with Craig. He may be a lazy brewer but he still is a helpful you-tuber

And btw you Can make great beer with a Mr. Beer kit. They are just less practical
