Down Here in the South (Las Vegas)

Brewery: Joseph James - New kid on the block with great beers.

Brewpub: Big Dog's / Draught House - These guys have been around for about 20 years, and have really good beers and brats.

Brewpub Second Runner Up: Tenaya Creek

Gastropub: Aces & Ales - A great rotating selection of beers and fresh hand-made pizza.

Second Runner Up Gastropub: Khoury's Fine Wine & Spirits - Issa, The owner, has three taps and a wide ranging rotating selection of hard-to-find beers. Fore example, in the las few weeks he's served Black Xanthus Stout, Firestone Walker XV, DFH 120, and others. He also has a fantastic bottle selection, and often gets items that no one else has. While he doesn't serve food, you are welcome to bring food in, and every Wednesday and Thursday evening he has one of several food trucks parked out front. these get-togethers are always a blast, as there is always a rare bottle of something being passed around.

I second all of this, though Khoury's isn't really a gastropub, really just a good bottle shop with beer on tap. Great place though. Living way up north I wish I had the time and reason to visit more often. I am thrilled that Aces and Ales opened their new location on Tenaya though.

For those in the Henderson area, Shakespeare's is a great craft beer pub. Usually have lots of local brews on tap. Also a selection of over a hundred other beers. Wednesdays are packed because pub quiz, and each other night having something going on; including Thursday as local beer night.

Also, they just did a collaboration brew with Joseph James brewing co. It's called milkshake stout and it is pretty damn good.

BJ's at the Summit mall, Reno, makes good beer and food. Their Brewmaster is a regular contributor on this site. He is very proud of their beer, as he should be.

I believe Minden is referring to me. When did you work there? I've been brewing there for just over a year and a half.

Yeah, it's a cheesecake factory now.

Heh I don't think we would have crossed paths, aside from any time I've been to BJ's in the last year and a half. I worked there nearly seven years ago. It was a ton of fun.

Yeah, it's a cheesecake factory now.

"775 Gastropub is now a Cheesecake Factory" is possibly one of the saddest sentences I've ever had to say out loud.

Sooooooo I edited my original post. Great Basin is left untouched.

NEW FAVORITE BREWERY: Pigeon Head. It's under the Wells bridge (I know, sounds super sketchy but that place is turning around. Redevelopment projects all over the place.) They are strictly a brewery and taphouse, the latter being just another room in the brewery so you can see all the magic. I highly recommend it. The Red Rye Lager is the perfect drink-anytime lawnmower kind of beer. Super easy to drink, lower gravity, but tons of flavor... but then again I'm a sucker for rye be it bread, beer, or whiskey. They also distribute to several (if not many) local restaurants, including Wild River Grille and Archies.

NEW FAVORITE GASTROPUB: St. James Brasserie. The only thing I can say aside from what I added in the OP is...

I haven't been too happy with Pigeon Head beers. Some were okay, but a few of the lagers I tried most recently were way too sulfury. They seem hit and miss right now.

Favorite Brewery: Banger Brewing. I absolutely love their IPA's, they are essentially exactly what I look for. Only downside is that its only a tasting room, but I can get over that by dipping in a to go beer while my girl is at Downtown Container Park. El Heffe is also the first pepper beer I've had, that I enjoyed. Hopefully they start kegging soon, so I can find it at Aces & Ales or Tacos & Beer.

Favorite Brewpub: Ellis Island. Not the fanciest brews, but it is definitely the one I frequent the most. Working late swings, right next door. Nothing like getting steak and eggs and a couple beers at 1AM for under $10.

Favorite Gastropub: Tacos & Beer. This place pretty much hits all my major desires, mainly tacos and beer. Their tap list is awesome, always have a good selection of Belgians. The tacos are the best tacos I've ever had. The vibe is pretty hipster which is the only downside.

Favorite Beer: Hops Anonymous by Banger. My favorite beer not just in Nevada, but probably anywhere. It's fresh, floral and sweet.

I still really need to try Crafthaus and Bad Beat Brewing, Henderson is just a hike from me. I just saw one called Old School Brewery on DI and Durango, so I'll have another option a bit closer.

Ain't that the truth... and right after I made beer jedi, too!

Pigeon Head is good, I haven't been super impressed by Stony Head or UnderTheRose... some of their stuff is good, a lot is only so-so.

St. James is bottling their beers now, so far I've liked all of them except the Plum 'lambic'.

ARRRGG! My BIL was eight away.

I have yet to have Stony Head. But I like UnderTheRose because they do a lot of farmhouse/saison beers and the set-up is pretty sweet. You'd walk right past it a million times without noticing it and there are a ton of games there (pool, foosball, and the big ones, ping pong and A FRIGGIN INDOOR BOCCE PIT!)

Whaaaaaaaat?! Very nice, I love seeing the expansion. A lot of their beers are awesome but I love Brasserie for the food *drool*

Craft Haus and Bad Beat in the Henderson Booze District deserve a mention.

Craft Haus has a GREAT IPA, and my wife loves their Saison. They are also instituting "Firkin Friday" in which they tweak one of their beers with something interesting, and serve a single firkin, first-come, first served.

Bad Beat gets my attention with a Basil Pale Ale, and an Imperial Breakfast Stout.

All the firkin events happen on the weekend, Banger does theirs too. They need to do an industry Monday or Tuesday firkin event for all us casino workers lol.

Lee's is carrying bad beat, but I keep trying to hold off to try them on tap at the brewery. I'll probably crack and get the basil one though. Sounds awesome

I love when breweries and tap houses do those. If I'm in a new place I always ask if they have anything on cask.

I was in Craft Haus last week, and they are awesome. The brewers are super knowledgeable and totally willing to share. They started out homebrewing. Definitely worth a stop if you're in Henderson.
