Neo Pollen

Does anyone want some neo pollen? I don't know much about sharing it but I have a male plant growing and healthy with lots of male parts showing. When does the pollen disseminate?

I'd love some. Will PM you my address. Can you tell us where you got this one from?

Those little pods will soon open into tiny orchid-like flowers. You can shake the pollen onto a plate - or - cover the cluster with a paper bag and give it a good shake.

You may want want to cover the clusters now to keep any other hops in the area from becoming pollinated.

These are wild grown from AZ. They live at about 8k feet. They are mostly 5-branch leaves with 7-branch early in their growth.

I will bag up most of the male parts to keep things low key. And then I'll just send the bag plus parts to you guys when I do mail them.

I keep finding these all over AZ. I found another patch a few weeks ago. I'd say a couple hundred miles from the first patch. I have pretty much figured out the pattern so I could probably draw a bunch of places on the map where one could find these things growing.

Have you brought any female plants home that were found in the wild? If so, how have they turned out tasting?

I've got three rhizomes going right now. Not sure what the 2 are yet. I will see soon. The cones were amazing smelling last summer. I have some dried and frozen but I haven't brewed with them yet. Maybe I should whip something up.

Each plant from the wild will be different genetically, so will have different characteristics. It would be interesting to see if the ones you found have some unique flavors/aromas.

If you sent me a PM last fall with your address for the seeds that I never sent (whoops, sorry about that guys) and post in this thread I'll send some pollen once the pop. I've responded to most of the PMs now. Of the two unknown plants growing right now one appears to have the same exact leaf form as the known male. That would make sense because I definitely cut at least 2 root cuttings off the same root. The other unknown sex plant has different shaped leaves. The lobes are wider and with fewer major serrations. So we shall see what that proves to be.

Are those plants getting snow in the winter up there in the mountains ?

For the neo that I have growin yes. The roads are closed for a out 4-5 months on average.

The last patch I found gets much less snow. More of a high desert type place. I think elevation. Was around 4500'. I haven't started growing anything from there. I want to go back and harvest some this year and see how well they work.

Both locations have had fire events in the last 5-10 years.

Humm, Did anyone get any pollen?

I am not sure how much longer the season is going to last, but I am on the 2nd flush of young cones and I've never gotten more than 3 flowering cycles per season.

Does anyone have any pollen they want to share?

Is it too early to give up hope for this season?

$#!T happens. Sorry guys. I was gone and missed the shot for the first pollen release and then it took forever to grow another bine and setup for the next round of pollination.

That's ok, I have plenty of male plants. I also have 2 healthy neo from USDA Oregon: one female, the other is still unknown. I will mix my males with that neo.
