Man, i have done so much reading and searching between this WONDERFUL site, mrmalty, and others i think i have confused myself. Mr malty says i need a starter size of 1.19 liters. I have only a 1 liter flask. i have a smack pack of wyeast 1056. what are the steps to make a starter size of 1.19 liters with only a 1 liter flask.
thanks in advance.

I would do two 600ml starters. Make one, let it go 24 hours or so, cold crash, decant and pour a 2nd 600ml of wort in there, let it go 24 hours or so, cold crash, decant, pitch. Then go out and buy a 2000ml flask if you can swing it.:mug:

I'd probably wing it if I was doing it that close. I'd just toss in 120 g dme and fill to 1L and add 3 drops of ferm cap to be safe.

Step 1. Go buy a 2L flask at the local hombrew shop....

Actually bad brew mentions ferm cap, which I've used for starters, in the boil and during fermentation. Basically food grade simethecone (I think that's spelled right), like a de-foamer, with no adverse effects on the final product. This would be less expensive than a 2L flask.

Either way, you're making a trip to your local HBS, or ordering online. Making 2 starters and combining them might take almost as long as waiting for your online order to arrive....

thanks for the info. i will prolly go with the 600 ml starter x2 as i am very new to brewing and trying to learn my way through. Unfortunately there is no LMBS in my area (Savannah GA), but next time i order i will look into a 2L flask. again, thanks for the quick replies. i know this horse has been beat to death.

If you do that then watch out for overflow on the second one.
