Didn't know exactly where to post so my apologies for double posting (also posted in the Bottling/Kegging forum).

Like a lot of folks, I'm looking to buy a used chest freezer for a keezer project. However, although everyone seem to be concerned about sizes and how many cornies fit, I'm more concerned about buying a lemon on craigslist.

Can some of the appliance experts contribute to creating a checklist of some sorts for us noobs? Any specific pointers on what to check would be extremely useful.

- Does it turn on when plugged in and maintain a constant cold temperature
- Check the seal, make sure it's not torn (can be replaced so not a deal breaker)
- Rust/stains
- Refrigeration line for taps indicating a freon recharge
- Compressor (but what should I look for when checking out the compressor)?

Specific models or manufacturers to avoid? Don't buy if it does/has this?

I'm sure there are more. Thanks in advance.

I'll keep updating this checklist with everyone's recommendations (hopefully).

Does it get cold when plugged in and turned on? Seems obvious, but some people try to sell units that no longer work properly.
