OK... long story short:

My 10 year-old was born on Christmas night. Our family started a tradition of choosing their birthday meal a long time ago, and my to-be-10-year-old chose Flying Pie Pizza (Man vs. Food, etc.): great pizza, great taps!

So, my wife goes to pick up pizzas for Christmas night for dinner, and spots "Old Rasputin" on tap. Well, she's been trained well (OK, she's just awesome, no training needed), and so she had a growler with her. BAM!

I am 3/4 through a growler of Rasputin, my son has his pizza, and I don't have to go to work until Jan 4th.

I am a lucky basti'd. :rockin:

you are a very lucky man, I have yet to have that beer but need to. You mentioned that Bert Grants RIS got you into craft brew, how does this one compare?

Old Ras was my first introduction to a RIS. My LHBS guy suggested it, and it was good.... but I like mine better!
:D

Memories sometimes can trick us! It's been many years since I had Grant's: I drank most of the Grants IS 20 years ago. It was excellent.

The only fair way to compare is that Rasputin was the first stout that got me as excited as Grant's did back then. It is really nice.

You should be able to find it in your neck-of-the-woods, yes? If so, I highly recommend a 4 pack. It's not cheap, but you will not regret it.

Dunright00: I have made some good stouts (Double-W and others), but have yet to truly duplicate the flavor and balance of Rasputin. The good news is, I will just have to brew more until I reach something close ;)

Wow... My condolences to your wife... that 99 month gestation must have been painful, not to mention giving birth to a 100+ pound fifth-grader.

Oh... You didn't mean Christmas day of this year?

I, too, love the Old Rasputin. I was blown away when I first had it just a few months ago. It was my first foray into the RIS world, and now I want to try so many other examples of the style to see how they stack up.

It's really a great beer.

I'm not saying I was trying to or had succeeded at replicating Old Ras (and I'm not saying that's what you were saying that I was saying...:drunk: ) but I just like mine better.
