Does anyone know if the refractometer sold through Northern Brewer comes with a case? If not, any recommendations on a good third party case?

Last one I purchased did have a case. I use it to hold the sample.

On the NB site you can use the "Have a brew master contact me" tab in the lower left to ask the question.

There are also Q&A's for most products. Someone may have already asked that question.

Thanks to both of you. I will grab this today, and am looking forward to knowing what is going on during my boil!

Hydrometer may not be the best tool for hot wort. Specific Gravity readings will be inaccurate when the SG sample is over 60°F. The warmer the sample the greater the inaccuracy. You can chill the SG sample to 60°F or fairly close to get an accurate reading. Most important is the gravity of the wort going into the fermentor rather than during a boil.

Here's a link to a temperature correction chart from Palmer's previous edition of "How To Brew".

A temperature correcting refractometer will yield faster SG results during the boil.
