Hey all, it's been a while since I have posted.
Some of you may have seen my Astrophotography hobby thread (https://www.homebrewtalk.com/threads/astrophotography-the-rosette-nebula.729480/)
But I also like doing woodworking as a hobby - I'm sure others here do also so post 'em up. 🙂
Anyway, my latest project was a first-time attempt at an end grain 3d illusion cutting board.
Being my first time, I did have some procedural flaws that affected the final outcome - but I learned from those mistakes and won't make them again.
Anyway, here is my first attempt at this type of end grain cutting board, it's 13"x14.25"x1".
The pattern is walnut, maple, and redwood - the frame is mahogany.

That's fantastic. How long did it take?

Longer than it should have - about 1-week elapsed time, but maybe about 40 hours total time not including waiting for all of the glue-ups to dry.
I have made simple face surface cutting boards before (which are pretty quick and easy), but this is the first time I've tried making an end grain cutting board (also one this complex) so it took a bit of learning curve.

Ahhh, Padauk. The 'I don't think I my shop is evenly coated with rust dust' wood. Gorgeous and finishes like a dream, but oh, the mess.

Been a while since I've worked with padauk. I've turned a few pens from that. Yeah, that dust is nasty, almost as bad as cocobolo, imo. Over time, the wood develops a brown patina and it loses that deep red color.

My MIL dropped her favorite cutting board. Brought it over to me assuming I could make it whole again. I didn’t have the heart to say I am wholly incompetent and lack any of the right tools, so I came up with this. I might need to hit one of you guys up for a new cutting board!

Here is my recent charcuterie board. Nothing fancy but the wood was too pretty to cut up too much..it is about 14 x24. I think I will use the left over wood to make a beer sampler tray.
