I've got three first year cascades. They are all growing differently. One is strong, has a thick bine, and large broad leaves. This one has topped out and I have to tie off the top so it doesn't grow up through the platform of the next apartment (They're growing under an outside wooden stairway, about 12' of growth height). This one has not yet started to grow outward very much. The second does not look as strong, smaller leaves, about a foot from topping out, but has a lot of side shoots which look to be starting to produce a lot of cones. The third is about 10' tall, small leaves, not much for side shoots. I don't expect much from this plant this year, but it is healthy and that's fine with me. Maybe it will surprise me. This is also the one that got knocked with a weedwhacker earlier in the summer and started from scratch. I'm happy with the plants and also that there's still good growth season left. I have one more summer at this place, then I have no idea where I'm going for work (I'm in North Dakota, I will most likely be going somewhere south or southwest). I hope the transplant goes well at that time.
