I recently scaled down to 2 gallon batches from 5 gallon so I could play around with more styles.

Today I made a recipe I got from HBT's recipe section called "Summer Citra Cerveza"

I did my own calulations to scale it down and I think I nailed it. I do not have beersmith or any of those types of programs, just an excel spreadsheet I created on my own. So, I am hoping someone might be kind enough to run the numbers for me to see if my calculations are as accurate as I believe they are.

The recipe as I did it:

2.5 lb. - British 2-row
1.5 lb. - Flaked Corn
.25 lb. - Flaked Barley

.25 oz. - Cascade (7.1%AA) :: @ 60 mins of boil
1/8 oz. - Centennial (9.0%AA) :: @ 20 mins remaining to boil
3/4 oz. - Citra (13.6%AA) :: @ 150* cooldown, stirred in

Mashed with total volume of 3 gallons for 60 mins @ 152
- Strike temp was too high @ 160* and took about 10 mins to stir down to target temp.
- ended up with about 2.75 gallons to boil after mashout. I did not heat to 170* as some suggest, I did a normal mash and then strained. Only gave a few firm squeezes to the bag.

Pre-boil gravity was 1.044
Post boil (OG) was right at 1.060

I do admit, the original recipe was meant for 1.040 OG but I didn't think my efficiency would be that good since I bought pre-crushed grains, so I added more (1/4 lb. more of 2-row and flaked corn). Also, I originally calculated for a 2.5 gallon batch but my LHBS only had 2 gallon fermenting buckets in stock, so I had to change for that.

I don't know if I am leaving anything out but if someone who has the software could run the number for me, I would really appreciate it.

Looks like you did well.

Use a proper calculator to get your strike temp and water volumes accurate. I recommend using mine at pricelessbrewing.github.io/biabcalc

Thanks, and I really like your calculator. I plugged in the info from this brew and according to what was produced from my actual brew versus what your calculator suggest, I think the calculator has it spot on. I would still like to know the formula you used though. :mug:

I only do 2 gallon batches which give me 3 six packs per brew. As you can see below I have a lot of beer to choose from. Check out video on my method. It's old but I've changed little only nuff to round up to 1.8 gallons into the bottling bucket.
