Hi

Ive been planning my kegerator build for a while now
and have started collecting the parts I need .

A local guinness rep has been helping me with parts .

I have a question about the gas .

is it ok to use guinness gas with a heineken keg ?

the guinness rep said its ok but the other way around doesnt work .

just want to be sure Im not being taken for a ride .

I got a guinness gas tank and a gas regulator off him for 120 euros
which I thought was reasonable as its a big gas tank .(3 ft) 20 lb

I"ll upload a pic of the regulator tomorrow for your opinions .

I havent paid him for them yet he told me I could take them away
with me when I was leaving .

I just want to make sure Ive got the right stuff for what Im doing .

Ideally Id like to have a heineken tap and keg in my kegerator :drunk:

Any feedback will be muchly appreciated :mug:

Most places here do a tank exhange instead of refilling the tank you bring in. If you have a beer gas tank, most places around here would not have a problem to exchange for a co2 tank. I think you should be fine but check with your local gas supplier.

Are you talking about running nitro in Heiny? He's right that CO2 definitely will NOT work for Guinness, it has to be nitro, but never heard of running nitro with Heiny.

Just for curiosity sake I'd be interested to see how it tastes.

the decision on which gas you use is determined mostly by the type of taps you use. If you are using stout taps then they have a restrictor plate in them and need higher pressure to force the beer through. In this case beer gas is used. The reason is that with a 70/30 Nitrous/CO2 mixture you can push 30lbs and not overcarb the beer since the nitrous will not go into solution. If you are using regular taps, can you serve guinness on co2? sure you can, however it will lose the creaminess that is derived from the nitrous pour.

But is it ok to use guinness gas with beer ? :drunk:

I called a guy who works in cork at http://www.thebarcompany.ie/

he told me it should work just fine but my concern is
the same as what greendragon just said will it
make my heineken taste differently .
