After bottling countless bottles, my laziness finally got the best of me and I decided I needed to switch to kegging. I starting looking at options for serving. I almost bought a store bought kegerator then I realzied that only two kegs at a time isnt what I want. I like having a variety of beer to drink at any time.

I found ordered a Haier HCM071AW which is a 7.1 Cu Ft Chest freezer. I figured I should be able to put 4 kegs on the floor. I set everything up with picnic taps and was doing that for a while. Opening and closing the lid got fairly annoying so I decided to start designing how I wanted this thing to end up. I bought the freezer Sept and am just now getting around to building this. This is what I got so far.

I wanted to make it mobile so I could move it around with ease and be able to slide it away from the wall while loading kegs. I ended up building this cart for it.

After that was done and after a night of some drinking I came up with his for my coffin on the top. I really like the look of them so I decided this was the route I wanted to take

This is when the laziness set in once again. I decided I was just going to put a tower on top. I installed the tower around christmas time. This keezer is in my garage so Winter months wernt to bad with not having a cooled tower. Now that its summer. My beer is only cold and not foamy after about 3 pints. I think thats what got me going again to finish this project.

Now bear in mind, I have absolutely zero wood working skills. This project is completely new to me. I decided to follow my original design for the coffin. I planned on having 4 taps but after seeing that Ill have room on the hump, I went with 5.

I decided I hated the white of the freezer so I shot it with black paint. It turned out ok. I went with a 2x6 collar figureing I should be able to put a pin lock on the hump. The 6 inch collar also seemed to put the coffin at a good height for the taps as well.

I mounted my distrubution block on the inside and drilled a hole on through the collar so I can run CO2 lines through it. I still need a bigger block but at the moment I only have 3 kegs so I have a little while still. I insulated the inside with 3/4 foam insulation. I decided to go with pine for all the wood so I could keep the costs down.

This is the rough position of the coffin. I plan on tiling the lid as well. I am going to mount the STC-1000 in on the right and plan on having blue led strips in the recessed area. The inside of the coffin will be insulated with foam board. I am also going to have 2 80mm fans in push pull configuration to recirculate air throughout the coffin. Hopefully that will end my foam issue.

I had some really ugly cuts that wernt even at all so I decided on using trim to cover the edges. This project also gave me an excuse to get an air compressor and nailers which I have been wanting for a while but havnt had a real need for it

This is the color I plan on staining everything else in... Now that I think about it I should have stained everything before hand then assembled. Oh well Live and learn.

Anyhow this is where I stand right now. I need to figure out what I want to do on the top. I also have a Raspberry Pi and an Arduino Uno sitting here collecting dust. I want be able to eventually control the freezer with the Pi. Im thinking about going the Brewpi Route.

That's lookin' nice! Be careful though, soon you'll be starting more projects and you'll have to buy more tools... so you can build more projects... so you can buy more tools.... so you can build more projects. It's a slippery slope!

I've been insanely lazy lately. I got all the shanks mounted. Thanks keg connection. I ordered another stc1000 so I wouldn't have to decommission my current setup. Led controller is installed. I got all the trim. On the front installed and all my insulation cut out . I'll have to glue all that in place after its fixed to the freezer and before the top is installed. This has been a long project.

Don't lie to us and say you have no woodworking skills, that looks incredible!

One small bit of constructive criticism and I hope I don't come off as an ass but if you use a pre-stain conditioner on the wood before staining, the wood will take the stain more evenly.

This is my first project. I'm afraid I'm a bit to late for prestain conditioner. I'm happy with the way it looks. I do wish it was a bit more even. Otherwise I think it looks great

It does look fantastic. You should be proud of yourself you did a great job on it. I wasn't trying to offend or be a jerk was just trying to be helpful. Softwoods like pine, fir, cedar, etc benefit from a pre-stain conditioner. Hardwoods (oak, maple, etc) do not need it.

You were by no means offending. I do agree that the top left of the coffin looks like crap. But inside the recess there is a bad ass cloud with a lightning bolt coming down that's basically hidden now. Oh well. I stained the collar and part of the base last night. That turned out decent. Just a nice even tone to it. I kicked one keg this weekend and need to polish off the other two then I'll be ready to finish this project up.

Kicked the other two kegs today. Man I hate it when that happens. This weekend I should make a lot of progress. I really need to brew since it's been over a month but I want to get this thing done.

Progress finally!

I need to finish the poly on the top of it still. It's not attached yet. I also need to wire the outlets and temp controller. I need to put trim around the lid and tile it still as well. Other then that it's almost done. I know the back looks like **** but you won't see that at all. I have a bunch of scrap plywood laying around so I wanted to get rid of some of it.

So I finally got everything functional this weekend. I worked on it for more then a few hours yesterday. For some reason I really enjoy wiring stuff up but it does look like a huge mess. That took a bit of time though. Everytime I go into my garage its like a time warp however. I just got the lines cut yesterday and just installed the top. I used my air nailer to attach the top of coffin so Ill need to fill the holes and restain and poly once again but Im very happy with the way its turning out so far. Next i need to put trim on the lid and tile it. Im starting to second guess my choice in tile however. I feel its to light but well see how it goes. I also forgot to insulate the top of the coffin. So right now thats sitting at about 65 degees where the rest of the compartments in the coffin are at 82. At least I know my R6 insulation will be good enough. The taps are cold to the touch too which is great. Unfortunately I dont have anything to put in it just yet except for a 10 percent cider. Enough rambling here are the pictures.
