My Fuggle Likes to Branch

I noticed last year that my Fuggle plant had a tendency to branch new vines off of the the first sprout on its way up. If I remember correctly it was splitting off from ground level up to 5-6 ft high. Is this normal? Do you clip these branches or train multiple vines up the same line?

Let them grow about 3 feet long, then cut down all but the three thickest bines. They will concentrate on more growth in the remaining bines.

I just strip the first 2 feet or so & let the rest grow.
