My fryer is turning everything black

Not enough oxygen in your flame. See if you can adjust your element to allow more air to pass through. Also, check to see if your element is gunked up. Your flame should be blue and your element should sound like a jet engine...

Sounds like your flame is too rich, meaning too much propane for the amount of airflow. Are you getting a orange/yellow flame too? If your flame is blue you shouldn't get much soot at all. You can fix this by increasing airflow (if the air intake is dirty or clogged) or decreasing propane flow.

yep, it's running rich... Tends to happen when the flame is turned down really low, but should "clean up" once you open it up.

I can crank the flame way up and still get that orange/yellow flame. How can I clean out the burner. I poured bleach down the holes and it came out the screen where you can limit the flow of air or propane, I'm not sure which. Thanks for the help and keep it comin.

Take the burner apart (if it's the standard turkey fryer burner) use a brush or rag to get all the gunk out of the burner.

I'd open it up and clean it and make sure you have enough opening to allow more air to get into the mix. You should be able to turn that flame mostly blue.

I am wondering if you have the wrong orifice? It's generally pretty easy to loosen the screw and adjust the mix.

Well, after taking the ONE bolt that holds it all together, I took some steel wool, wire brush, boiling soapy water, and baking soda did the trick. I feel like I can actually get water boiling now. I've had to sacrifice the post extract temperatures do to time constrants.

Got a spider web in my mixing tube and had the same problem. Cleaned up and back in business....doesny take much to goof the mixture up.
