SO: doing a Schwarzbier. Did everything right, pitched at about 44 and slowly raised it to about 50 over the next couple of days, as recommended in Palmer's Brewing Classic Styles. Its been ranging from high 30s at night to upper 40s/low 50s during the day, and to help I've wrapped a heating blanket around my carboy and tried to check every few hours to make adjustments. Its sitting in my garage.

Yesterday when I got home in the afternoon, I had an inch of krausen on top, which almost doubled that evening.

And then it stopped.

Im basically going by the thermometer stuck to the side of my carboy, which I know isn't the MOST accurate, but its still reading where it needs to read.

What do you think is up and any tips on how to fix it? Could it be sitting too cold? The German Lager yeast recommends fermenting at 50 so....someone please just tell me there's still hope.

There's plenty of hope yet. As long as it is still fermenting, as measured by hydrometer readings, you are good to go. If you are concerned about the lack or reduction of krausen, I'm willing to bet that some just settled out. If you are fermenting around 50, you should be fine.
