I am such a proud father...my first baby tastes great. It has only been 2 weeks in the bottle and about 5 1/2 weeks old. I can't keep my hands off of it. I am going to have to lock it up so I can let it fully age! BTW...it makes me feel like a light weight. Are all homebrews this way? 5.7% or so!

Well at a little over 7 weeks that is a pretty good time frame to begin sampling some styles of beers. 5.7% is a little high, but then again with homebrew there is really no bounds to measure what is normal. Most of my beers are 5% beers. My latest is about %9 and my Oatmeal Stout is under 4%. The sky is the limit (within the reason of ability).

Congrats :D

I think what your getting at is does homebrew affect you differently than commercial beer? IMHO I would say YES for sure! I've noticed that HB hits you a lot quicker and harder than normal commercial beer. Why this is? I'm not really sure but it defiantly does and the buzz you get from HB is waaaaaayyyyy better IMO.

So yes your 5.7 homebrew will probably hit you a lot harder than a 5.7 commercial beer.

Keep at it and you'll be tweaking your recipes to hit a desired %.

I love to take a Pale Ale or Belgian Wit and scale the recipe back to a 3.5%-4% "session" beer. The darker more robust brews like Porters I like to add extra oats or other malts to get the ABV% up to a nice 7.5%.

Depends on the occasion and the time of year.

Congrats! My first two are also delicious, and I'm hoping to brew my 3rd on Saturday. Sounds like you're hooked!

I found the opposite to newguy. i get more drunk on commercial beer because of the "chemicals and impurities". I can drink 6 or 7 hb and not be drunk, but have 2 or 3 commercials beer and be off my ear...so good luck, most of my beers are made with 1.2 kgs sugar, and end up around 6%.

Sorry to say I didn't enjoy those beers as much as a 5% Dunkle Weisse (a standard in my house now).

Same here to a degree. My DunkelWeizen is for sure a standard. In fact if I had to pick one style that would probably be it...but it all depends on what I am in the mood for. :D
