Just got a beer program and this is my first attempt at a recipe. Any help or thoughts would be helpful. Thanks

Honey Malt Mash (Mash Tun) .5 lb 4.8%
Munich Malt Mash (Mash Tun) .5 lb 4.8%

Northern Brewer (8.0%) Boil (Kettle) 60 min .5 oz 25.0%

Looks pretty solid. I would probably lose one of the specialty malts and your need to ferment in primary for much longer than 3 days! Go two weeks in primary at least and skip secondary and you'll be just fine. Looks tasty. I love Northern Brewer and Amarillo hops, but it kind of annoys me how Amarillo is twice the price. Supply and demand I guess.
 
What are you making? .5 pounds of peat malt is an extraordinarily large amount. In most beers, it should be 0 but if you feel you must use it an ounce or two should probably be more than enough. I assume a 3 day primary is a typo, but if not, you definitely want to go much longer than 3 days!
 
I used two ounces of peated malt in a pale ale once, and it was almost overwhelming; I'd limit it to 1 oz or so.
 
What is peated malt exactly? What does it do to the beer that is so overbearing? I've never used it before...

Peat is a type of moss. Peated malt is when they use peat as a fire source to dry the malted grain whic gives a very intense smokey flavor (think scotch). Way more potent than regular smoked malt.
as far as the recipe goes, its a solid pale ale. The peat may stick out like a sore thumb unless you really dig peat..
 
Thanks for all the input. The 3 days was just to get it to upload. Just so I know for the future why loose one of the specialty grains? And thanks for the info on the peated malt I will cut back on it just want to give it a little bite to it.
