My First AG

I am going to attempt my first all grain this weekend. It is a simple IPA. I have built my masher out of a converted water cooler. I only have one Boil pot but I can deal with that. Any advice for my first time? As always thank you all!

I did my first AG two weeks ago. The best tip I got was to make sure I had some boiling water and chilled water on hand to make mash temperature adjustments, if necessary after mashing in. Good Luck!

My advice is to relax, not worry, etc.! Also, IMHO, it helps to 'prime' your cooler/mash tun by adding some near boiling water to it, letting it sit, then draining it before adding you grains and mash water. It helps with strike temps.

I don't agree with dumping the preheat water, it's wasteful. I like to achieve the same goal by striking a little warm and see where the temp goes. If too hot, stir and give it a minute to cool.

Agreed. But if you boil some pre-heat water in a separate pot, you can re-use it in your sparge water.

Yes, or for clean up. I'm talking only a couple of quarts of water.
