Yeah, that'd be cool. Gotta brew some more beers after I get the car fixed. Only so much $$ to go around. Wanna brew some more of my hybrid lager. Maybe get the record player goin so you can hear an original copy of Hot Rod Lincoln Drags Again from 1961. The old blues & old motown, etc are either old records or remastered CD's. My wife even has some old Dusty Springfield.

Love that song McB - Great choice!

I was going to comment that I liked the original version by "CCR" better, but thought maybe I ought to check out if they actually were the original song writers and players..

Nope!

going to quote Wiki a bit.

"Midnight Special" is a traditional folk song thought to have originated among prisoners in the American South.[1] The title comes from the refrain which refers to the passenger train Midnight Special and its "ever-loving light" (sometimes "ever-living light").

Lyrics appearing in the song were first recorded in print by Howard Odum in 1905

The song was first commercially recorded on the OKeh label in 1926 as "Pistol Pete's Midnight Special" by Dave "Pistol Pete" Cutrell

In 1934 Huddie William "Lead Belly" Ledbetter recorded a version of the song at Angola Prison for John and Alan Lomax, who mistakenly attributed it to him as the author.

The song, as popularized by Ledbetter, has many parallel lines to other prison songs. ... Many of the lines appear in prison work songs

Folk/bluegrass musicians Wilma Lee and Stoney Cooper had a top 5 country hit with the song in 1959 as "Big Midnight Special".

Lead Belly, Big Bill Broonzy, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee, Odetta, The Kingston Trio, Pete Seeger, The Beatles, Burl Ives, Big Joe Turner, Bobby Darin, Cisco Houston, Mungo Jerry, Van Morrison, Little Richard, Buckwheat Zydeco, Otis Rush, The Spencer Davis Group, Lonnie Donegan, Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, & Creedence Clearwater Revival among others, have recorded the song.

Gotta admit, I had no idea this song has been around so long and sung by so many folks.

The version you posted above is awesome. Beforer you posted that, I have never heard the song from anybody other than CCR. Kind of sad to find out they didn't come up with the song, but eff me.. These guys sing it pretty darn well too. :mug:

I didn't know it wasn't a CCR song either, thanks for posting the origins of the song. CCR's version is amazing. Just found that guy Willie Watson above. Saw a video of him performing with Gillian Welch. He's good.

Just a little clip from the George jones show, Merle haggard singing Footlights

For you fellas who jump into the country music thread, if you're not on Devil Makes Three yet, you should be. New Album is great. Couple cuts, the album has more fiddle and banjo in it.

Excuse me son, is that one of those new fangled cassette tapes? In my day we listened to the radio, best thing ever was vinyl records. Do you think son, these cassette tapes will replace my LPs?

- No way. Well sir, the cassette is dead, so are eight tracks. There was a thing called CDs that came out around the late eighties, early nineties. Now our music is mostly digital..

Digitial? What you talking about son? I've heard of digital clocks. What's that have to do with music.. Clock radio?

- Digital, you know.. ones and zeros.

Are you a coummunist boy?!

- No Sir.. and I do miss vinyl and cassettes too. :mug:

PS.. I love the song Unionrdr

Somedays I think I"m young. Lately, even though I shouldn't be..I feel old. Classic country songs like this I remember clearly...and where I was..

Amanda, is the greatest welcome home song for me, I know.

here's a good one I always liked corner burnin' country roads to, just like Balmy & clod;

It's bluegrass. Bluegrass is to country what heavy metal is to rock.

Well played unionrdr !

I watched a movie on TMC last weekend. It started about. 10 minutes before I found it. It was about Hank Williams. His son, Hank Jr, sang all the songs. George Hamilton played Hank Sr.

The movie was in black and white. I think that was for affect.

I don't remember the name of the movie but pretty sure somebody here does and will share.

Found it. Thanks google. Your cheating heart
