So i finally finished my third keg in the brewery setup. I got a hold of a hoff stevens keg, and decided to incorporate it into my system as a hlt and double purpopse it for a fermenter.
I cut oval holes in the side and bottom of the keg and purchased old lids for corny kegs for the holes from chicompany.net
The side and bottome weren't in great shape, so the simple lid seals wouldn't quite seal. I had to build a threaded fixture to put a lot more pressure against the gaskets..I also added a flat rubber gasket I cut from gasket rubber stock.
I installed two electric 120v 2500w elements into the keg, put in a diptube on a bulkhead with valve and quick disconnect, and done!
I plan on using this to increase the volume of the mash tun by circulating through this keg while mashing, and then also circulating through this during the boil, so I effectively increased the volume of the mash tun to 31 gallons, and the bk to 31 gallons.
After brewing, beer goes in, lid goes on the top, I lay it on its side in by fermoire, and put an airlock in the rubber stopper that fits into the old bunghole on the side
