Hey guys,

So, I brewed a batch on the weekend, popped the airlock on and it blew right off within 8 hours. So, I did a bit of searching on the forums and made a blow-off tube.

This was all 24 hours ago and now when I take a look at the carboy there is a distinct layer of "gunk" stuck to the top of the carboy, however, there is a distinct space between the liquid and this stuff.

My question is, should I be reincorporating it back into the beer or just leave it how it is?

Cheers!

Leave it.

That is just krausen. Every single beer I put into a carboy looks like that. No big deal.

There's no such thing as "over fermentation" it's not like it fermented more sugar than it should have. You just had a very active and messy fermentation. It's perfectly normal and happens to all of us on occasion.
