I never made an intro,
My name is Shawn currently active duty with the warrior transition battalion Ft Riley KS. Before I got injured I was with the oldest most decorated ngineer unit in the army, the 1st engineer battalion. Deployed twice to Iraq, looking for the ever so fun IEDs:rolleyes:

So I have one foot out the door and Ive been looking at hobbies I can do before I can work. I love motorcycles and plan on getting a trike in the future, I love guns, I will be getting wood working equipment for turning and building small projects. I will also be reloading my own ammo for my ar15 builds and carry gun.

Love beer, all kinds that I've tried anyways. I do not enjoy the coffee ones. I love stouts, ales, lagers, and really dry IPAs

I think the eaiest way to get your feet wet is mr.beer kit. I dont like there products but you get a fermator and bottles. you can start by making small batches. like 1 to 2.5 gallons and see if you like it. I would go right to all grain. that is the freshest beer you can get. get on you tube and it will show you what you need. in small batches. you will need a mash tun and a pot to boil in. you can go very simple or get into alot.

i wouldnt waste my time with mr.beer personally,5 gal. extract batches are where most start, you can find many kits to start with online or local homebrew shops carry these and starter kits.(or check these classifieds)thanks for serving and for our freedom !!!

Welcome Shawn and Thank You for serving, you and your family's service to our nation is greatly appreciated. Home Brew Talk is a great place to learn, I have learned a lot here. I agree with brockettbrews that Mr. Beer kit is a great way to get started to see if your going to find brewing fun. I started with a MR. Beer kit I got as a gift and 1 batch was all it took to get me diving in headfirst. So I say go for it and learn and let the hobby lead you wherever it leads you. There are lots of books but the best one to start with is How to brew by John Palmer: http://www.howtobrew.com/intro.html the first edition is free online. It is worth buying the most current edition.
Again Thank You for serving and welcome to Home Brew Talk and the passion of home brewing!!

I also want to thank you for your service and sacrifice you have made for our country, you will find a lot of us fellow vets on here sharing our passion for the brew. I agree with brockettbrews and BrewerinBR, start off with something small like Mr Beer. You can get in for fairly cheap and if you dont like it you havent sunk too mucn dough into it. Im sure this will not be the case though, so once you are hooked then upgrade your gear. Pick some pieces up here and there and before you know it you will be off to the races. I recomment AG (all grain) but some prefer to do extract or partial mash. Either way you came to the right place. Welcome to the forums and your new lifes obsession.

Prost!
