I tried this for my first batch of beer, and it's been fermenting for a week in the primary and transferred into the carboy. The hydrometer is now reading 1.016. Is my beer ready to bottle or do I need to wait a little longer?

Thanks...I'm sure this has been done before but i can't really find it...

Take another hydrometer reading tomorrow or in a couple days; if it's still 1.016, then you can bottle. If it has dropped, then wait another day or two and re-measure. Basically, it's done fermenting when you have two identical back-to-back hydro readings.

Now, whether or not 1.016 is what you were "supposed" to end at depends on many things: recipe, yeast, initial aeration, initial yeast count, fermentation temperature, etc.
