I am planning on running a Muntons Connoisseurs IPA (canned) tonight. I am going to add 1lb of an Amber Spraymalt Extract. Should I be using more than 1lb or adding additional sugar? Also I was thinking of adding some Brewers Best Bitter Orange Peel. I bought a 1 oz pack of the Orange Peal, I dont want the Orange to over power the beer, how much (if any) should I add to the Brew. I am looking to add just a hint of Orange to the brew. I guess my 3rd question would be when should I add the Orange Peel???

1. Why are you adding an extra pound of extract?
2. How big is your batch?
3. I'd add the orange peel at the end of the brew, like a flameout hop addition.

The directions that came with it suggested adding sugar or Spraymalt.

This is the can I am refering to:

Also by at the end of the brew do you mean before nd of the brew??? Sorry I am total nubie.

And the Batch will be a 23 liter batch per the directions. I am really just trying to learn the lingo and what the different ingredients do to the flavors. Hoping to get a All Grain Set-up soon.

Well.... the additional pound of amber extract will lend some color and flavor to the beer as well as give the yeast something else to eat, thus increasing the % abv.

By end of the brew, I mean at 2 minutes or so before the end of the boil. The orange oils are volatile and will fade if boiled for a long time.

I've never used orange peel, so I can't say how much 1 oz will affect a 6 gallon batch. Perhaps search on this or see if anyone else can provide more input...

Happy Brewing!

I just brewed a Muntons Gold IPA kit and the kit said to add 1lb spraymalt and 1lb dextrose. So I looked on here and found a feed about the Muntons kits( I'll post link later) but pretty much they recommended using all spraymalt and no dextrose and even upping it a pound or two, so long story short I used two pounds, so I think you'll be fine with your initial gut feeling

2lbs of plain amber DME would be fine. Spraying it is just the way they dry it. So we just call it "DME"-(Dried Malt Extract).

unionrdr thank for the tip, and the help with the lingo.

I have brewed about 10 batches at this point, just in love with the whole process.

Any tips on the Orange Peel?
