I am going to build two heatsticks and am debating if I should use 4500 or 5500 watt sticks. I have two seperate 30 amp GFI protected circuits so either wattage wouldn't be a problem.

Questions:
1. Would either wattage be fine in getting 10 gal of 50F tap water to a boil. I am talking about using only one stick at a time. If this wouldn't be a problem how fast can I expect this to occur in?

2. Might someone post a link for low density 4500 and 5500 watt elements. I can only find high density at the store.

3. Has anyone mounted the 90 degree heatsticks in the lids of their brew kettle and HLT? If so please send pictures

4. When using the heatsticks must you ensure that the element is completely submerged in liquid at all times or can it be partially submerged?

5. Is it ok for the heatstick element to touch the bottom of your boil kettle or must it be suspended in the liquid?

I think I helped a little, never mounted one in a lid.

Do you use 90 or vertical sticks?

How are yours orientated?

how long would either 4500 or 5500 take to heat the 10 gal of 50 F to a boil? less than 30 min?

Do you have any good links for PID controllers that you can post?

I dont personally use heatsticks, my elements are mounted in my kettles, it is easier, less construction.

50F to a boil will take: 60 minutes with 4500W or 47 minutes with 5500W

For PIDs, Id go to www.Auberins.com

do you have any links for wiring plans for a pid controller or step by step instructions on how to build one?

No, it is literally so simple, most people use the instructions with the PID.
