I am considering turning my 2nd MrBeer into a secondary
fermentor. I think I might drill a hole in the plastic lid and then Gorilla
Glue a bored rubber stopper in.
MrBeer kits have two notches cut out of the top of the thread for the lid that act as a cheap c02 relief. The fermenters are not airtight. I'm thinking perhaps teflon on the threads could seal it.

The reason why I go through the trouble is because for 1 the MrBeer
fits in the waterbath cooler I have already and I'm not sure that a 3
gallon carboy would fit.
The other reason is that instead of paying 20 bucks for a carboy
+stopper and airlock I only have to buy an airlock and stopper.

But then drilling a hole in the MrBeer would probably kill the resale
value on Ebay and it seems that people are paying too much as is for
anything MrBeer on Ebay, new or used. I could sell and then upgrade but then back to the cooler problem.

What do you guys think?

I would just go to 5 gallon batches w/ glass, but i am not you. If you have the money laying around buy glass and stick w/ it. Sell you Mr. beer on e- bay to pay for you glass carboy. I agree you are killing the value by modifying the mr beer fermentor.
