Hey everybody, I've been brewing extracts for 3 years, moving to all-grain when I get things settled in Mobile. Moving soon from Pittsburgh for work. Anybody have suggestions for homebrew groups, shops, good places to have a beer, guitar shops, places to avoid? Don't know a thing about the place or anyone there, so starting from scratch. The immediate interest is finding a nice place to live. Finding folks to learn the art of all-grain from would be great as well. If you'd rather pm me, feel free.
Thanks for all the help.

Welcome aboard, I'm from a bit further south. if you don't already have it, a temp controlled fermentation chamber is very helpful if you want to brew beers other than Saisons.

Sorry I cant help out much with the local scene.

Thanks for the reminder about fermentation temps. If you do a search of my posts, I have some Milky Way Stout that has to be dumped for the same reason. Unless you really need that wicked hangover from one bottle. My old apartment wasn't well suited to brewing, mainly due to size.

I live "across the bay" in Daphne, have you decided what area you will be moving to? There is only one local homebrew shop in Mobile, The Wine Smith on Moffet road. He has everything you'll need in there but its kind of a long drive for me. Let me know when you get settled in, there's a few Mobile/Baldwin guys on HBT, maybe we can "meet and greet" one day. :mug:

I'm 4-5 hours north of ya, but wanted to say Welcome to Alabama!

Ken

I am so sorry.

:p

Dont be. Mobile is not a bad place, especially if you are a water person, loads of waterways to explore from there all the West to New Orleans and East along the entire FL Panahandle...all navigable from Mobile. Some surprisignly good diving along this coast too and great fishing/spear fishing. Miles of beautiful wide sugar white sand beaches around Gulf Shores, AL too and east on the panahandle around Destin. Not to mention all the great seafood!

Brew a good session beer for the beach and the dock...and use it to make friends with people who own boats!

Sounds good. For now, I'm at an extended stay hotel, which may have an issue with me fermenting beer here. One place that could work to meet up at is the Tinder Box in Mobile. Very cool cigar bar. Not sure what they would say about homebrew, though
