So I am making the plunge and upgrading my brew tower from 5gal batches to 10 gal batches. I wanted some advice on how to develop recipes for 10gal batches. I am a color outside the lines kind of guy and usually make up recipes as I go. I tend to use between 12-14lbs of grain for my 5 gal batches(I like high gravity beers) usually it will be 11-12 lbs two row with 1-2 lbs specialty and then maybe some honey or candy sugar to kick up alcohol. What is a good starting point for base grains for a 10gal batch? I like to brew between 7-10% for all my beers. (Why not?) I submit to the collective wisdom and look forward to many beer discussions!
 
The hops and grain ratios don't scale up, so I use beersmith for scaling. You can download a free trial, but the one thing the free version doesn't do is scale.
It might be worth the $20 or so to download full blown BS2.

Sounds like you don't really use recipes and just wing it. Just double everything you're doing and write it down so you don't make the same mistake twice. Keep in mind your new system will have trub loss, water loss, absorption and boil off rates different than your current system. You will need to know them. I suggest some form of app or program so you can make scaling and recipe saving easy. You would hate to brew a great beer and have no idea how to duplicate it.

Do a search of the recipe database here for the style you're looking for. Tons of great recipes that will be good starting points. Read the comments after the OP, that's where you will get the good discussion on what people have attempted to change and how it worked out.
