In my last few orders, it has been 6-10 days from KS to the Bay Area, regardless of when I order in the week. It seems like they only pick on Mondays and I get my order that Thursday. So when I order on a Wednesday or Thursday, I see no activity on my order until the following Monday. I stopped by their Concord, CA store on the way to Tahoe a few days ago to grab some sacks of grain and bottles (great facility, but not worth the hour drive for a regular visit). It's well stocked and knowledgable staff.

This is news to me about Morebeer moving to KC area. Does anyone know if they will have a brick and mortar walk-in store? That would be great to pick-up sacks of grain saving the shipping costs for me.

Years ago I had 4 or 5 local places I could drive to and get stuff. One by one they’ve all gone away.

Now I’ve been getting most of my supplies via mail order for several years. I had one sort of local guy maybe 35-40 minute drive who closed up his store. He’s operating now on sort of an oncall basis out of free space in a building thats mostly under construction. He does pallet orders a few times a year. He’s a member of our club and comes to our meetings, we can work with him.

I have one other store probably almost 2 hour drive. That one is bigger and has much more. Within the last year the owner got out and sold the store to his employees and they moved location. I have mail ordered from them a few times since with great service but have not visited the new location.

I will order from MoreBeer or one of the others if I’m really looking for something one of my places here doesn’t have or the shipping difference is ridiculous.

But its really sad how far we’ve fallen over the years. Those who have a local shop - I hope you appreciate it and support them. Many have tried, most have failed.

I ordered from MoreBeer during the 15% sale. The order shipped on Tuesday and arrived on Friday (3 days). I’m near Las Vegas and it took the same amount of time to ship in the past when delivered from CA. KC is more than twice the distance. Three cheers to MoreBeer!

I have no first-hand knowledge, but even if they don't have an actual retail store at the KC location, I'd think they'd have some sort of pickup for orders made on the website?

IMO it would be pretty silly not to.

Remember, folks: SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL SHOP, OR YOU MAY FIND YOURSELF WITHOUT ONE.

And trust me, as someone who went from having three or four local options to one that is over an hour each way, it really sucks. Especially when I need something last-minute... or, far far worse, in the middle of a brewday. No website is going to help with that.

I have a local shop I've supported for many years, so not silly at all. Silly would be to not look around for deals. Everyone has different lives and incomes where some being pragmatic is a must.
