Modification to Haier kegerator

OK, I scored a cheap kegerator when I first got into brewing, bout 6 months ago. Unfortunately, I got what I paid for, which is a Haier. I've got the typical foaming & temp issues that plague these units because there is no fan in the unit & the tower remains too hot. Yes, I've tried the copper pipe into the tower, but it hasn't helped much. I was wondering if anybody has tried to just remove the tower and drill thru the side of the unit & install a tap there. Mine is just in the garage so cosmetics dont come into play. Compressor still gets plenty cold, just hate to waste about a half beer of foam every time I have a cold one.

A low-tech solution might be to disconnect the keg from the tower tap and hook up a hose and picnic tap to the keg. When you want a beer, open the fridge and pour yourself one.

I thought about installing the cooling fan, but I wasn't sure if it would work. Anybody have any experience with this ebay system? I've read conflicting reviews on the fan fix in general. If it does indeed cool tower effectively, I might build a cool "T" type tower & go to 2 or 3 taps

I recently finished building my kegerator and did a cooling fan to help cool the lines and here is what I have noticed already (havent poured any yet as im waiting for a party and my regulator to get in)

What we did and have two tubes go up the shaft of the tower, the inner tube has the beer lines in it while the outer tube has just air, the fan blows cold air through the inner tube around the beer lines and air goes back down the outer tube to go in the fridge to get recooled.

How it works, I notice that the taps themselves are very cold to the touch when it is running, when i open up the top of the tower and feel inside can feel cold air circulating nicely. I think it will work great

The coolers sold on Ebay cool too well and you end up with continuous condensation on the top of the tower plus fan noise. Find one of the Beer Tower Coolers sold on line that uses a small fan. These push just enough air into your beer tower to keep the beer shank cold & faucet cool and you don't hear a fan blowing all the time.

I bought one of these fans years ago and while it does work great, it also heats up the inside of the kegerator. If you've already done the mod to the thermostat that makes it colder, then you should be fine.

Yeah, I've turned the thermostat screw down & it cools quite well though it has a pretty wide temp range. Would do well to buy an external controller, but I don't want to sink a bunch of $ into this chinese made piece of !@#%!. I researched the top commercial brands & they use fan forced cooling in their towers, so I'm gonna try this fix. Thanks for all the help

I stuffed my tower with packing peanuts to resolve this issue.

Packing peanuts only insulate, they don't pull cold air up to the beer shank.
